JazzPrix winner Kristina Barta

3. 6. 2015

Bohemia JazzFest is delighted to announce this year’s winner of the JazzPrix Competition, Kristina Barta.   Every year, musicians residing in the Czech Republic and under 35 years of age are invited to apply to Bohemia JazzFest’s Competition, JazzPrix.  This year, 14 musicians applied and auditioned to be selected for the chance to perform at Bohemia JazzFest as well as the JazzDag showcase in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

This year’s international jury was comprised of three heavyweights in the jazz world: Ralf Dombrowski, German jazz journalist of Süddeutsche Zeitung, Rudy Linka, Czech jazz guitarist, and Gunter Schroder, the European agent at Ted Kurland Associates .

For the jury, it was not easy to select one winner from a pool of such high quality applicants, but at the end all three jurors unanimously selected Kristina Barta for her fresh approach to the jazz standard “Autumn Leaves” and the great interaction within her band members.  The Kristina Barta Quartet will be performing at BJF on July 9 in Plzen and on July 19 in Prachatice, with a new project featuring native instruments, piano, double bass, drums, and trumpet.  Barta plays her own compositions as well as her own arrangements of jazz standards.   Congratulations to Kristina Barta for winning Bohemia JazzFest’s JazzPrix 2015!
