Since their album debut in 1981 under the same name, the Yellowjackets have risen to the top of the jazz music charts.   With original members Russell Ferrante on keyboards, electric bassist Jimmy Haslip, and drummer William Kennedy, the band quickly found its own distinctive R&B-Jazz fusion sound. The band performed at the very first BJF in 2006.  This year, we are celebrating the group’s 35th anniversary together with saxophonist Bob Mintzer and bassist Dane Alderson by presenting them with the  Bohemia Jazz Award, and for the first time ever, broadcasting the entire concert by Czech television from Plzen.    This is the first time that the Bohemia Jazz Award is presented to a group and not an individual artist, and we couldn’t be more excited that Yellowjackets will have this distinction.  Over the last 35 years they have truly made an unforgettable and exciting mark on the jazz world, and we can’t wait to see what comes next!
