July 15 8:30pm Children of the Light Trio/Danilo Perez, John Patitucci and Brian Blade

5. 7. 2014

When legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter was looking for a backing band to match his peerless skills and freshen his sound for the 21st century, he turned to three of the best in the business: pianist Danilo Pérez, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade. Now playing on their own as Children of the Light Trio, the group kicks off Bohemian Jazz Fest 2014 as the headline band on the opening night in Prague.

All three players are world-class jazz musicians. Pérez has made a significant mark on contemporary music with his distinctive blend of Pan-American jazz, and off the stage as a UNESCO Artist for Peace. Patitucci is a Grammy Award-winning bass player who has toured with Chick Corea, Michael Brecker and Roy Haynes. Blade is a versatile percussionist and singer-songwriter who has recorded with Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Herbie Hancock.

Together, they make up one of the most dynamic, exciting groups in jazz today. Playing on Prague’s historic Old Town Square, their appearance strikes a perfect opening note for this year’s festival, which once again offers a sophisticated selection of the world’s finest jazz musicians playing in some of the most beautiful settings in Central Europe – all for free.
