She is the Jazz in Sweden-artist of 2009 and her name is Josefine Lindstrand. The singer has despite her anonymity in Sweden already collaborated with the British pianist and compositor Django Bates, the American pianist Uri Caine and the Swedish pop artist Maia Hirasawa.
She has also received a Danish Music Award for the vocal album of the year in 2005 together with the group Sekten and done several tours in Europe during the last year.
Josefine wrote and arranged all songs on the debut album There will be stars by her. The starting point was texts, short poems, written the years at the turn of the century of 1900 by the American poet Sarah Teasdale: -” Her poems hit me immediately. They are over hundred years old but feel contemporary. And also they have a kind of musicality that makes them so sing able”.
The music on the other hand, was created at her parents' place in the country, on grandfather's old untuned piano while grandmother cooked meat loaf. It makes a musical blend that reminds about French cabaret of the 60-ties, pop and Swedish fir forest.
-” The music was clearly influenced by the atmosphere. With the elk heads on the walls and a whining oak - and fir forest outside the window, I sensed a strong feeling of the past. At the same time I wanted to do something that was significant for my life today”, the singer says.
Josefine Lindstrand mixed the album together with the rock producer Mudrock, who also produced Alice Cooper and Godsmack. With this album of strong character in the baggage, she now awaits a long tour, both in Sweden, such as Stockholm Jazz Festival, and abroad.
