Domažlice is among the most touristically frequented cities in Bohemia due to its rich folk traditions and proud history as a border town. Its famous past is connected with the rebellioius peasant hero Jan Sladký Kozina of the Chod people, who ended up in the gallows. The town has about 11 500 inhabitants, and they pride themselves on a heartfelt relationship to folk art and honour the fearlessness of their ancestors. Every year they welcome thousands of visitors at the famous Chodsko Folk Festival under the dignified, if somewhat crooked, tower of the Church of the Birth of the Virgin Mary... Today Domažlice once again successfully takes advantage of its advantageous position immediately neighbouring Bavaria.
